About the Journal
Journal of International Law and ASEAN Legal Studies (JILALS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Base for International Law and ASEAN Legal Studies (BILALS), an independent and non-governmental organization dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of research in international law, with particular emphasis on ASEAN as a developing regional legal order.
The journal aims to provide a scholarly platform for the dissemination of high-quality research articles, conceptual analyses, and other scientific writings addressing contemporary legal issues in international law and ASEAN legal studies. It welcomes interdisciplinary and critical perspectives that explore legal developments, institutional frameworks, and regulatory dynamics within the ASEAN region.
The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, studies on ASEAN as a regional organization, the evolution of ASEAN legal norms and institutions, regional integration, and the emergence of regional legal frameworks applicable to ASEAN member states. Although ASEAN differs from other regional organizations, its growing commitment to regionalism has led to the gradual development of regional legal rules and cooperative mechanisms that increasingly shape governance and legal relations among its member states.
By encouraging rigorous academic discourse on international law and ASEAN legal developments, the journal seeks to contribute to the advancement of legal scholarship and to support the development of effective legal frameworks that promote regional cooperation, legal certainty, and rule-based governance in Southeast Asia.
The Journal of International Law and ASEAN Legal Studies is envisioned as an international forum for legal scholarship, bringing together contributions from law professors, legal scholars, diplomats, judges, policymakers, and practitioners from around the world.
